2012_10_31 - Halloween at Cole's school

Cole's school had a Halloween parade and potluck lunch today.  Cole was dressed up as a very cool dragon, and mommy, daddy and Maks all showed up too dressed to the nines.  We had a very fun time looking at everyone's costumes and parading around the school yard.  Then there were tasy snacks and....all the kids went to take a nap :)

Tonight we'll go out trick-or-treating in our neighborhood and hopefully Cole will be a good sport and have lots of fun.  He gets to stay up late when it's dark outside.  Then we'll put kids to bed and sit on the porch and give out candy to all the big trick-or-treaters.  The neighborhood is a lot of fun and hope to take lots more pictures tonight!

September 2012

Click picture for full album!

September was a busy month, with lots of visitors, trips and good old family time.  Maks is growing fast! In September he was between 6 and 10 weeks old.  He started smiling and coo-ing and holding his head and rolling over from front to back.  Cole started a new year at Treehouse school and had lots of play time in the water.

The month began by a visit from David and Marianna.  They were in town to celebrate their son Isaac's first birthday.  We were so glad to see them and Cole was excited to meet their little boy.  Soon after the big event they came over and we played at our park.  What a pleasure, after all these years, to stay in touch and see our families grow together.

Next came Aunt Stevie's birthday and we went out for Korean BBQ.  It may have been Maks's first restaurant outing.  He did fairly well - all he did was eat a little and sleep :)  Cole had a great time, considering he got first bite of the birthday ice cream.

August and September were very hot, so of course there was lots of pool time.  We used our little pool in the back yard and Lana and Alena came over for a swim.  Those kids were crazy - splashing, running around, hanging out on the swing, finger painting and eating every tomato in sight.  We also spent lots of time in the valley where Cole became much more comfortable and confident and was swimming by himself in the blow up tube, jumping in the water into grandpa's arms and going underwater.  We're really looking forward to next summer's season.

Middle of the month daddy took a trip to Philadelphia and on the way back saw some cool stuff out the airplane window.  But there was another big air event - the space shuttle Endeavour made its final voyage.  It flew in on the back of a modified Boeing 747 and strutted its stuff all over town.  Daddy got a really good view from the Culver City park hill and mommy saw it from work.  We already have tickets to see it at the museum when Aunt Lucy and Mira and Gosha comesout to visit in December.

A huge milestone for Cole this month - his teachers asked us to stop bringing diapers and pull-ups and get some underwear!!  At Target Cole got to pick whatever he wanted - of course he went with Cars and (Teenage Mutant Ninja) Turtles!  He's very excited for his underwear and he's getting better at potty training every day.

The month closed with a huge pot-luck for his entire school.  All the parents came out and helped put together a really fun event to meet one another and most importantly thank all the teachers for all their hard work.  We played in the park till the sun was gone and moon was out [very big and important things these days] and then it was finally time to go home.

All in all, a very fun month!

What animal is this?

Another funny saying
Cole calls a porcupine a "poke-you-pine".  Too cute!

First run!

Maks and daddy going for their first run together.  Trouble is that he didn't sleep at all! Maybe next time.

Haircut day

Today, daddy and Cole both got haircuts.  But for the first time ever Cole sat by himself! He listened to Teresa (our stylist) and was very happy the whole time.  The whole affair, of course, ends with a lollipop, so he knew he had to be a good boy :)

Another update - Maks is now in size 2 diapers.  Our little guy is getting so big!  Already 13 lbs.

Cute things Cole says

I have to write down a few of the cute things Cole says before I forget them.  So here are some things so far ... I'm sure there are many more to come:

What Size are you
With new baby Maks we talk a lot about being a big boy and being a little baby.  So we were asking Cole
Daddy: "Cole, are you a big boy?"
Cole: "No"
Daddy: "Are you a little baby?"
cole: "No"
Daddy: "What size are you?"
Cole: "Daddy, I'm ME sized."
You have to hand it to him, he is totally right on that one!

New Year
For Rosh Hashanah we were having dinner and we were teaching Cole to say "Happy New Year" in Hebrew.  He repeated it but he kept adding "Shalom" to the end.  Finally we said "Shalom means peace, hi and bye. Cole, do you know what peace means?" He responded gesturing with his pointer and thumb pressed together also "Yes. It is just a litttttle bit."

Clothes
When Vadim went to Phillie for a conference he brought Cole back a Batman shirt.  However, it is long sleeved and since it is summer Cole cannot wear it yet.  We told Cole he can wear it when he is a little bigger.  So now he goes around saying that he will wear the Batman shirt when he is bigger.  He also says that he is going to go on an airplane and bring back "Dinosaur shirts for Mommy, Daddy and Baby Maks".  I guess shirt gift giving is a requisite when you go on an airplane.

Sneaky Boy
Cole now has mastered the art of getting what he wants.  Whenever he wants something from you, he says "Mommy (or whoever) let's share."  Of course that means, I want some and give it to me!  But when he frames it as sharing how can we say No?
